The Namesake Test; The Overcoat: Day 3; Portfolio Writing

Period 1:

Please complete The Namesake Test this morning during period 1. This is a timed test. If you have arrived late today, you will still only have until the end of period 1 to complete your exam (8:20).

Please make every effort to arrive to class on time (7:30!) Tardiness will affect your portfolio and marking period grade--as well as tests like this one. The last bus arrives at SOTA by 7:10. If you are driving yourself or being dropped off or walking, please adjust your time schedule to arrive at the beginning of class!

NOTE: If you have a problem with this, please speak to Mrs. Apenleiter about it.

When you have completed your test, please use any remaining time (until 8:30) to work on your portfolio. See rubric post above this one.

Period 2 (8:30-8:55)

We will continue reading "The Overcoat". What we don't complete please read as homework (I would suggest completing the reading today if you are attending the Senior Trip this weekend--or complete the reading on the bus...but it would be more fun for you to complete the reading in an advisement period or today after school, if possible.

There will be a short quiz on the story when you return on Monday. You may return "The Namesake" to the library if you have completed it.

HOMEWORK: Complete "The Overcoat". Keep writing your drafts for your portfolio.

Wilderness Tips - Examination & Analysis

Use period one to continue the story draft you started last class. Use your time to develop your ideas, theme, work on plot, character development, setting, and other aspects of your fiction writing. Remember, your story should include the following: Write a draft that includes a flashback . Consider an urban setting, but at some point in your story, move to a more natural setting. The setting should reflect the inner conflicts of your protagonist if possible. Avoid character cliches: surprise your reader (and possibly yourself or even your character) Include a secondary character who should act as a foil to the protagonist. Write in present tense ; (flashbacks can be written in past tense); Use 3rd person POV (limited, omniscient, objective). See the previous post for more details.
