And various non-fiction books: including Writers in Politics, Decolonizing the Mind, and the play I Will Marry When I Want. He was exiled from his native country and now lives and teaches in California.

Doris Lessing: 2007 Nobel Prize for Literature: (1919-2013) is usually considered a British author, although she was born in Iran (Persia at that time), and grew up in Zimbabwe--what is now Rhodesia. More info on her can be found at the link.
