Comics - Research

Please research any one of the following to give a short presentation (informational speech) to the class:

Early comic book history & the Golden Age:
1. Comic books: "Famous Funnies" & Harry Wildenberg
2. Comic books/serials/tv/movies/lunchboxes: "Buck Rogers"
3. Comic books/serials/movies/lunchboxes: "Dick Tracy"
4. Comic books/serials/t.v/lunchboxes: "The Lone Ranger"
5. Comic books/serials/t.v./lunchboxes: "Flash Gordon"
6. Comic books: "Detective Comics"
7. Comic books: "Action Comics"
8. Comic books: "Marvel Comics"
9. Comic books: "Captain Marvel"
10. Comic books/animation/t.v./movies/lunchboxes: "Superman"
11. Comic books/animation/t.v./movies/lunchboxes: "Spiderman"
12. Comic books: Jack Kirby "King of Comics"
13. Comic books/animation/t.v./lunchboxes: "Archie" comics
14. Comic books: "Samuel Maxwell Iger" or "Jerry Iger" - Women depicted in...
15. Comic books: "The House of Mystery" & "The House of Secrets" - Horror Comics
16. Comic books: "DC comics"
17. Have a favorite not mentioned, go for it. For example: the Blue Beetle, Flash (not Gordon), the Hulk, Batman, Wonder Woman, Cat Man, Krazy Kat, etc.

For all of the above find out the history of the topic, what it was, what it was influenced by, how it influenced other comics and popular culture. Try to explain why this item or subject was important in shaping America at its time (i.e., why this? why was it popular?)

Since this is an informational research "speech"/"presentation", feel free to create a brochure, newsletter, powerpoint presentation, poster, etc. Remember that these visual aides are only there to help visualize your key points (they are not the speech in and of themselves). Use visual aides as aides (not your entire speech). They work best as attention grabbers or as take home favors for your audience.
