Writing Day; Deadline looming for Myth Documentary

Please use the time today to complete your myth documentary and work on the several portfolio pieces/drafts from this unit:
  • Write a story using the survival archetype.
  • Write a poem retelling or referencing a myth.
  • Create a documentary on a myth cycle.
  • Create and define your own pantheon. Create a religion or myths from this cycle.
  • Write a modern fairy tale or myth (see models we discussed in class; handouts/readings; and Grendel)
  • Write about the significance or staying power or gender roles of a fairy tale or folk tale.
  • Write a critical essay on the book Grendel (see discussion questions for ideas!)
  • Write a story, play, or script using any variety of archetype.
  • Write a story using Campbell's universal hero archetype.
  • Use the psychology/philosophy of Klein, Erikson, Campbell, Jung, Galton or Kierkegaard, etc. to inspire a story/poem, script or essay.
  • Rewrite/revise any previous MP1 or MP2 draft.
Please note that the Webcam and Microphone are not disabled on your Chromebooks.  What is disabled is the native (built in) application that runs that hardware.

At this time, the district is recommending the use of the Screencastify Chrome app for video and microphone recording.  You will need to go to the RCSD Chrome Web Store in order to install and use the webcam and microphone.  In order to do this, please see the directions below:

  1. Go to the following link Ã  RCSD Chrome Web Store
  2. From the RCSD Chrome Web Store, click on the app you are interested in installing (in this case, Screencastify)
  3. Click on the  button
  4. A popup will appear, click on “Add Extension”

  5. You should now see an icon in the top right side of their Chrome Browser for Screencastify. ÃŸ
  6. Follow the online steps to setting up Screencastify.  You will need to do this after clicking on the button Ã 
  7. Follow the CHROME instructions to record video/audio on your Chromebooks...[See link for details!]
  8. If you need a video converter, you can get a CHROME converter from the same source...check out: Video Downloader & Video Downloader Professional.
  9. NOTE: You will have to add these extensions to your Chromebook for them to work!

HOMEWORK: Complete your myth documentary project. This project is due Thursday, March 12. Continue to work on your portfolio drafts.

Use period one to continue the story draft you started last class. Use your time to develop your ideas, theme, work on plot, character development, setting, and other aspects of your fiction writing. Remember, your story should include the following: Write a draft that includes a flashback . Consider an urban setting, but at some point in your story, move to a more natural setting. The setting should reflect the inner conflicts of your protagonist if possible. Avoid character cliches: surprise your reader (and possibly yourself or even your character) Include a secondary character who should act as a foil to the protagonist.
